Drew's Birthday

It's Drew's birthday and the family that isn't out of town for fall break- basically just Matt and me, Mom and Dad, met up with Katee and Drew some of their friends and Drew's family for some frisbee golf. We didn't have the best frisbee to work with but ours was better than some- and with Matt's ability to toss it great distances our team did all right. While enjoying some pizza afterwards we were talking with one of Drew's friends that also had a baby boy with them- their first. She played volleyball at the Y also and went on to play over seas for 4 years. Matt was glad to talk to her because for the first time he had a real confirmation that he made the right choice in passing up the opportunity to continue playing volleyball (outside of the spiritual confirmation/promptings he had at the time he made the choice of course). When he made that choice he told his coach the two most important things in his life were his relationship with his Heavenly Father and his relationship with his wife and he couldn't see how continuing to play was going to be good for either one of those. As he talked with her tonight about her experience playing and watching other players, the things that stood out where the good people she knew that had marriages end in divorce over the strains of being a part, and how at first you try and go to church but eventually you just get used to not going and not having the opportunities to be a part of a ward, etc. Those are the things people never talk about and it was nice, especially as Matt starts a new chapter in his life serving in the church as elders quorum president that he was able to have that confirmation that choices made long ago are the very reason Heavenly Father and his Family are still priorities in his life. What a blessing he is to us and how grateful I am for him.

After that great experience over pizza we headed back to Drew's house for cup cakes and games. The best part of the night was watching Ollie and Gehrig interact. He is finally getting to the age where he plays with other kids. Gehrig had fun bringing him every ball he could find and he was very entertained by Ollie getting all excited and slapping the table as fast and hard as he could while "talking" loudly. If we could only understand what he is trying to say! I'm so excited for those two to grow up together :)
