It's been an entire year since Ollie played in the snow and since our chances of ever having it at home are pretty much zero we had to take advantage of it any chance we can! With Jed in good hands the three of us got our winter gear on and headed out to do some sledding. We didn't have a sled so we pulled out Matt's snowboard, sledding on our boards at the end of a good day on the mountain is one of our favorite things to do so why not use it at the house? I followed the boys out, Matt with his board and Ollie with a snow shovel...
We headed to the hill on the side of the house, it was somewhat narrow so Matt gave it a try before trying to take Ollie...
Gotta love those lips! With a fresh track and the green light for no apparent danger, it was Ollie's turn to go down with Matt...
He LOVED it! And of course as soon as he was done with his first ride he wanted to go again. They took a few rides together before it was finally my turn to take him...
As you can see from the snow flying up on us, I wasn't quite so good at steering, but we survived!
After Ollie had his fill of sledding Matt thought he would entertain Ollie by tackling me and rolling around with me on the snow. Ollie thought that was great fun to watch and the only pay back I could muster was to get Ollie in on making Matt pay for it with a snowball fight...
But he was no match and Matt got to roll him in the snow too! Then he decided that it was about time Ollie learned to build a snowman, after my failed attempt yesterday I was glad to have a snowman building expert around to show Ollie the ropes, how did I not know how to roll it? That didn't even cross my mind, somehow I thought I was just going to pack snow together into a ball!
One of my favorite pictures...They got the base down and Ollie kept singing "Frosty the Snowman" the whole time haha!
Second layer up and now onto the third...
With his body all done it was time to find some eyes, funny thing was there were some strawberries that were tossed out in the snow so Matt and Ollie went off to find them for the eyes...
With some crazy looking eyes in they went to find his mouth (a big rock), nose (a badminton birdie), buttons (more rocks) and arms (Sticks)...
Kind of scary looking, but cute in it's own way, maybe we needed to give him a magic hat and scarf to make that guy come to life!
Ollie loved his Frosty, the entire rest of the trip he would look outside for him and point and say "Frosty!"
Frosty got to go snowboarding...
Live shots of Frosty's creation:
Ollie was starting to get cold and tired so we decided to let him go inside, and while he warmed up and rested we went back to play- no more kid track, time to build us a jump!
I built a simple one, and then after a try Matt decided to improve upon it, for some reason he wanted a gutter running between it and I said "Why not?"
He went enough times to pack down the track (cause I'm no good at steering!)
And then it was my turn...
Still no good at steering! I would go all over the track and would go off the jump and land on the left side, but that didn't stop the fun! Matt on the other hand would hit is straight on every time, and his laughs and perma smile tell it all...
And the jump just kept getting bigger, and the gutter wider...
We had to start steeling snow from other parts of the yard to make it bigger...
It paid off!
He would ride it to the end of the yard, I couldn't hit it straight enough to get much further than the jump!
We were having so much fun we finally convinced Uncle Richard to take a break from work to come out for a few rides...
We also got Kate to join in on the fun...
What a great way to spend the last day of 2013!
