Our family Easter Egg Hunt is always on Saturday. Friday night we celebrated Lance's birthday which meant a great dinner with friends followed by a get together at their house where Marcee delivered more phenomenal cup cakes and Lance showed highlights of the movie "Rad" for everyone's entertainment. I had never heard of it but apparently it was a big movie on the west coast, it's basically the craziest 80's movie I have ever seen- the clothes, the acting and yes it is about BMX bike racing. The entertaining scene was the high school prom where the main guy and girl do a "dance" on their BMX bikes on the middle of the dance floor. My sides were hurting, X games would be emberrased for these guys! Anyway, the boys made a late night dash to the grocery store for candy so we could stuff the Easter eggs. We've decided it is a good thing to give some tasks to men because they came back with confetti eggs, which meant no stuffing and no candy saving us from a long night and the kids from more sugar. Matt had also volunteered us to make cinnamon rolls for the pot luck style breakfast we have before the hunt but after falling asleep at Marcee's we woke up in barely enough time to stop at the grocery store and get the kind you pop in the oven, no home made anything this year!
We arrived 30 minutes late, as we were pulling up Matt asked me if I was tired of always being late and I replied by explaining that really I was just tired of always having to rush from one thing to the next :) It's always fun to see the family and hang out. While we were all enjoying a great breakfast on the lawn in the back the sprinklers turned on. The kids had a big laugh as we all screamed and jumped up to save ourselves and our food!
I guess we'll remember to check that next year. The boys (I guess I should start calling them men) were put in charge of hiding the eggs while the girls gathered all the kids to the stairs for the annual pre-hunt picture. It's a bit more like torture for some of them. It goes on forever while we all try to figure out a way to get all of them smiling and looking at us at the same time. It was Ollie's first time but he was in good hands with Nathanael.
When that ordeal was over everyone was let lose and Ollie's first Easter egg hunt was in full swing! Matt decided to let him ride along in the basket while he helped him hunt, and then I got a turn.
After the hunt everyone was gathered again for another picture, this time all the grandkids surrounded Mom and Dad. Thomas got them all to look at the camera and laugh by shaking his butt and letting them use it as a target for their empty eggs. After everyone got sugared up we all sat around enjoying each other's company and the weather, only uncle Nick was ambitious enough to entertain the kids on the trampoline with some smack down on the boys and a more gentle crack the egg when the younger kids wanted in.
After it was all over Abbey and Allee talked us into a swim/BBQ at our house. The two of them came along with us to make the Costco run for food, guests arrived before we even made it home. It was a fun afternoon. After everyone lef the girls talked Matt into taking us all to see "Mirror Miror" (because they jumped in the freezing water!), Hydee and girls decided to meet us which meant we went for the later movie and I had time to shop. My favorite part of the day had to be shopping with Allee and Abbey. We were on a mission to find me an Easter dress, we got lucky with a bright pair of shoes first and then I had to find a dress to match. The shoe shopping was the best, Allee and Abbey were putting on bright 4" heel shoes with me, I was cracking up as they giggled and struck poses for each other. Mission accomplished, we found a matching dress and made it to the movies with no minutes to spare! What a fun day!
